October 5, 2012 – The Diversity Film Festival at IUPUI began at 4 PM. Students stroll in one after another, scribble their names on the sign in sheet and enter the Lilly Auditorium. The film of the moment is La Misma Luna (Under the Same Moon). In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, the University Library invites students and faculty to look through a new cultural lens. La Misma Luna (Under the Same Moon) tells the story of Rosario and her son Carlitos. An illegal immigrant, Rosario works as a domestic maid in America while sending money to Carlitos in Mexico. In a turn of tragic events, Carlitos is forced to cross the border to find Rosario in hopes of reuniting with his mother. After the showing, the students had a brief discussion about the film. Some of the questions included, “how do you believe La Misma Luna comments on the issue of immigration?” and “how did La Misma Luna comment on stereotypes?” – Sylvia Burlock 2012
